Training Diary – Week 13, Panic stations

So let’s start with this, last Sunday we were supposed to run 20 miles to get back into our training program and well that didn’t work out. At all.

The other half got ill and sadly spent the weekend throwing up so the run just didn’t happen, one way or the other. What did happen was a great weekend of catching up with the NFL and drinking lots of coffee.

Also not working in our favour is that on our last run at mile 15ish Corrines knee went and she was in a lot of pain for the last mile and especially the walk after we finished running, so we decided just to give her knee more time to fix itself.

So my “training” said this week is supposed to go like this;

Week 13 11th – 17th November
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run
Saturday – Park Run
Sunday – Lift Like a Girl // 7 Miles

And this is actually what happen!

Monday 11th Nov 19
Yay our normal rest day and I went straight onto a diet. Mostly because I want to make the effort to lose some weight before we go away and mostly because I want to make it easier to run. So this morning I weighed myself in at 261 lbs.

Yeah not my heaviest and not my lightest. I did manage to get into the 240’s prior to Run rock’n’roll Liverpool and that’s where I ran my fastest times, so I’d like to get somewhere near there. Just means I’ve got some work to do!

Tuesday 12th Nov 19

On Tuesday I was supposed to run on the treadmill after work, mainly just to get my runs in. Wellll I was stupid and forgot my running shoes so the other half brought them in and I finished early like I was going to and we did around 5 Miles. It was tough but really good.

Wednesday 13th Nov 19
Yep nothing happened here!

Thursday 14th Nov 19

On Thursday, I was a very brave girl. I cannot remember what I was looking for but I managed to stumble onto the Triathlon Club page on the IOM and they were doing some winter training up on the outdoor track and well I went!

We did a dynamic warm ups, then 5×3 endurance running and then a cool down lap. I loved every minute of it, seriously and will be doing it every week I can! Makes me excited to see where I can progress. Also hopefully I can get to know some of the Tri people and see what they do for training.

Friday 15th Nov 19
Nothing happened lol

Saturday 16th Nov 19
Nothing happened again!

Sunday 17th Nov 19

Oh Sunday, how I wish you went a lot better. Turns out my sisters knee is fecked, I’m hoping it’s just an IT band thing and that with some physio she can get it fixed but I am freaking out around about now. We managed 10 miles before it gave in, 10 when it was supposed to be 20. I think if we managed 13 we might have been OK but only the world knows. We’ve now got 7 weeks left to make this worthwhile and I’m going to try everything I can do to make this happen.

Overall I can see that I need to do more on the days when I’m not doing anything even if it means I go back to the gym which is what I’m wanting to do, I also really want to go back to Lift Like a Girl as I miss it but with the long runs it’s sometimes really hard to do both.

Also I’ve started thinking about what I want next year to look like. I haven’t got long till the year creeps up on me and I really really want to have goals and aims to work towards other than my racing!

Anyhow here’s to next week and hopefully Corrine seeing a Physio!

I just signed up for an Ultra

Now every year I go away in March and October to the other half parents for two weeks, mainly to recharge more than anything.

Since I took up running thought, I have tried my best to find races at the same time so that I could recharge while also doing what I loved, running. Turns out there seems to be no races in March next year, or if there are I just cannot find them.

Ok tell a lie could do the Draycote 10K again but it would only be to beat my time and not for the medal as I have a sneaky suspicion that the medal is the same as the one I already have sadly, and well it wasn’t filling me with the excitement I normally get with a running race.

I did find another race though, the Swan Challenge and boy howdy, yeahhhhh I have ummed and arrhhed about this one.

So the idea is you have 6 hours to complete as many laps of the 3.2miles route. It’s a challenge against yourself. You can do one lap for a 5K, two for 10K, four for a half or 8 for a marathon.

Me I’m going to stupidly aim for 10, or more. Gotta put the or more in there because I will be doing everything in my power to get the more in lol.

It took me a long while to sign up because well I just didn’t think I could do it and well I still don’t think I can but I’m certain with some training (actual training) I’ll be able to do something amazing and well if not, it’s a challenge against myself noone else so it’s going to be exciting to see what I can do.

Training Diary – Only the World Knows

Ok soooooo I’ve not been putting anything up because well I lost motivation somewhere and haven’t really got it back, as it is I’m suffering with what must be a chest infection.

Oh the joys of winter!

Well Disney is not far away at all and well I’m shit scared I’m not going to be able to run it ekkkk, so I’d better buck my ideas up! So I bring you the first week in my training diary, which I will be keeping (promise!) So if you remember my previous blog post where I said what I was going to aim for well I’m still aiming for that, kinda.

Tuesday

Tuesday was the first of my short runs of which I only managed 3.5 miles and well I do feel like my chest gave up. I stopped half way and sent my other half a text saying how hard the run was and that I was going back, yep that’s never happened before! Today was also the day my mum got to open the post to see if I got into the London Marathon, spoiler alert, I didn’t! Ahhhh well there will always be next year, hopefully!

Saturday

So I didn’t run again all week, my chest has been suffering and as I’m on holiday all I’ve been doing is having a lemsip and taking cough syrup. Really hoping that I can sort this cold out! Kinda typical, think I got one the same time last year as well!

Also I got married woooop, not your normal wedding but perfect for us.

Sunday

Sunday my sister travelled up from Wales to meet me so that we could run the Draycote 10K, we we’re both still very much feeling meh after Leicester being cancelled. I’m still undecided on whether I’m going to run the virtual run or not, I feel a wee bit strange about getting a medal for running it even though I’m not if you get what I mean….. Anyhow we still wanted a run and well I still wanted to wear my t-shirt otherwise it would of been a waste so we found the Draycote 10K to run. I’ll do a separate race report on it later.

This week hasn’t been perfect with regards to training I do understand that, but I’ve tried my best, I’m hoping to get out more next week and only time will tell. When I’m back home I will be doing a better plan of action and I will also be on a diet. I defiantly know they don’t need each other but I’ve managed to put on a wee bit of weight and I think it might be one of the reasons I’m running so badly. I also know that I feel better running when my diet is healthier.

Disney Training – The Plan

So this week is the week, the week we start training and I thought now would be as good time as any to explain how we are going to train for the Dopey Challenge.

In the first instance one thing to remember is that it will be getting cold here quite soon and we live in the Isle of Man so there is no way really for us to train how to run in the humidity. We’re obviously just going to wing it when we get there and hope for the best!

I found our training plan online, I think it might be the actual one Disney gives you but I’ve changed it slightly, instead of doing the run, walk, run we are just going to run and if that is to much we’ll just learn to run, walk, run. We’ve never ran a full marathon before, so however excited I am, I’m also a wee bit scared about it all! I’ve also changed the 45 minutes run to 4 Miles, as that’s basically the same for me, not so much my sister, she’s fast but it will work for me.

So we have 20 weeks till we go to Disney, is now a good time to panic???!!

Jesus I didn’t realise it was so close till I counted it lol.

Week 1 19th – 25th August

Week 3 2nd – 8th September

There is the potential that because Sunday is the day of the End2End that I am supporting the other half so won’t be able to do both LLAG or the run but we will see!

Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run

Week 7 30th – 6th October
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run

Ok this is where the training get’s interesting!! I’m of to Leicester on the 4th/5th (not booked the boat yet so unsure on which day lol), and well if it’s the 4th I can get a Park Run in and if it’s the 5th I wont be able to. Then again it doesn’t really matter which option I take because on the 6th I’ve got the Leicester Half Marathon and I want to do my best ever in this event. As long as we keep going back to the other half’s parents in Leicester in October I will be doing this event and with it being my first ever half I think it’s a really good way to see my progression.

Failing any of the above, my diary say’s were supposed to do 15 Miles so once we’ve ran the Half Marathon we’ll (my sister is coming over to just do the event with me) do the other 2.5 miles. Glutton for punishment, I’m certain of it lol.

Week 8 7th – 13th October
Still on Holiday
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run
Saturday – Park Run
Sunday – 3 Miles

Week 9 14th – 20th October
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run

Sunday – 17 Miles
So we’re still on holiday for this long run and when I talked to the other half on what I could do, I came up with the idea of running around Rutland water, which is around exactly 17 miles. Woop Woop. He’s going to go and cycle and I’m going to run. I’m really looking forward to it.

Block 2 – Second Block, super ekkkkk

Then on the 6th we’re flying out ekkkkk, so that’s it for now. I’m going to try my hardest to keep to this and if I want to do a couple of more runs in or miles then I will do!

I’ll also be doing cross training during this, which will mostly be cycling and weight lifting.

Training Diary // WC 6th May 2019

Wednesday 8th May 2019

So on Tuesday I added a few new tattoo’s to my Pokemon sleeve, I love how it’s moving forward, it’s going to be very exciting to see it when the colour goes on. I thought I’d give the skin a day to recover so there was no running sadly. Moving onto Wednesday we did some more strength training in the gym with added foam rolling.

Thursday 9th May 2019

Thursday was um interesting, the whole morning it lashed it down and then it came to our lunchtime run where it was soooooo humid. I don’t know whether you can see this from my glasses. Still managed to get a great time in though which makes me very happy.

Friday 10th May 2019

Friday was another day strength training in the gym! I’m really trying with getting more gym style selfies, how people manage to get great ones and a full session in I have no idea lol!

Saturday 11th May 2019

YAY!! Park Run Saturday, Oh I do love Park Run and this week was extra special because of that view! We’re at Conrhenny for the next 5 weeks because of T.T. and practice week, hoping to get out watching the bikes, hopefully anyhow unbelievably managed a PB somehow!! Even with the killer of a hill.

I cannot believe I only have a couple of weeks till I’m doing the Liverpool Run Rock’n’Roll! Hoping to get out and do more running next week just to keep the mileage ticking over.

Also just noticed, yes I am wearing my Liverpool Spring 10K t-shirt in every photo and yes it did get washed every day lol!

Training Diary // WC 29th April 2019

Monday 29th April 2019

As always Monday was my rest day, I really do try and do nothing at all apart from walking though town at lunchtime!

Tuesday 30th April 2019

Tuesday was a strength training day with the sister in the gym. I love the fact that we are both in our London pants and also how different they look! I’m wearing capri’s I swear!!

Wednesday 1st May 2019

Wednesday was a quick (seriously quick as it was just us two) run up and down Douglas prom during lunch. 2.56 Miles of which both were in the 10 min miles!! Still amazed at how fast I am running lately.

Thursday 2nd May 2019

Thursday was another day in the gym strength training, my aim over the coming weeks is to try and get more photo’s of me doing the training sessions we are going through. This TRX is well scary. You just clip it into a portal on the roof and your good to go! I always panic it’s not going to take my weight so I never really know if I’m doing the weights properly or not!!

I also spent the night doing a quick pack for our weekend trip away to Liverpool for the Liverpool Spring 5K & 10K (race report to come on both soon!) I normally pack rather minimally and I found it really hard this time what with the racing costumes and the extra shoes!!

Friday 3rd Mary 2019

So Friday was on the boat day in the afternoon after half a day at work and then the best recce run ever! The night before I had done a quick google map play for a run around Sefton Park as we knew we wanted to get a little run in, well it wasn’t long before I started noticing that the park was perfect to make a suggestive picture! Turns out it was a lot harder to do that I thought, we got lost once, hence the little kick up at the top and then while we were looking at the map figuring out which way to go our other sister continued on down the path, hence the line inside! Overall though it was a good run a bit a lot longer than we wanted!! I was only hoping for a 5K!

Saturday 4th May 2019

Saturday was the Liverpool Spring 5K and I don’t want to say much as I will be doing a Race Report!

Sunday 5th May 2019

Sunday was the Liverpool Spring 10K and as with the 5K I don’t want to say much as I will be doing a Race Report.

We came back home on the Sunday afternoon boat so didn’t have much downtime sadly. This week was more about ticking my fitness over and having a really good time while we were away. I’ve got a “break” week prior to the Harbour to Harbour walk and then it will be the Liverpool Run Rock’n’Roll so not much downtime this month!

Training Diary // WC 22nd April 2019

So I really need to get my bum back in gear, I have so much I need to train for and I am so much happier when I actually have a program to work today’s. Sadly prior to this week I did some epic weight lifting and managed to hurt my back really badly. Not only did this mean I missed out on the Easter Festival of Running (watch out I’m coming for you next year) but it meant that this week I was just putting the feelers out to see how I was functioning.

Monday 22nd April 2019

Photo

YAY for Bank Holiday’s right! Extra YAY for the other half actually being off!! This is my first “proper” run after a week off because of my back and well I was much happier to actually do this with someone than without, just encase my back didn’t hold up!

After much decision we decided to run around Archallagan, now this Plantation is our local one and I have walked and cycled it more times than I can count. I seriously love it more than anything and this little place is my happy place. I remember walking and cycling dreaming of running around it and after I broke my ankle I never thought I’d be able to do it well today I did and it was amazing, so much so I will be adding it to my running routes!

Total running today 2.6 Miles

Tuesday 23rd April 2019

Normally today we would be doing a walk/run with Jessica during lunch to get her out but she was busy so it was just myself and Corrine. Cue a super speedy 2.6 Miles!! I couldn’t believe how fast I was going and oh my, it was so good to stretch these legs!!

I had so much fun at lunch that I decided to go out again after work. As I wanted to take the pup out I thought the best place would be along out heritage trail. It’s a lovely (if a wee bit rocky and bumpy from all the muddy cycling!) old disused railway line. If you follow it all the way through you’ll get to Douglas. I stupidly downloaded prior to going a 150bpm podcast. Let’s just say that was one super speedy run!! I didn’t even know I had it in me!

Total ran today 6.9 Miles

Wednesday 24th April 2019

Today we just did some really good cross training.

I love going to the gym to do strength training, I really do feel like it’s my spirit animal. I decided to just focus on our upper arm strength and some crossfit items. All in all it was a really good session for 45 minutes!!

Friday 26th April 2019

Another day in the gym doing strength training! I was really glad that this one was mostly upper arms. I had gone out for site inspections in the morning so my ankle was killing me by the time lunch came around!!

No photo description available.

So not only have I got the Liverpool Spring 5K/10K and the Run Rock’n’Roll Liverpool 5K/Half Marathon I thought it would be great to sign up for the Harbour to Harbour walk at home! It’s 9 miles and we’re expecting to finish it less than 3 hours hopefully. I’m going to be using it as a practice for the Parish Walk just to give us an idea of how well I’ll be doing. I’ve also put down that I’ll be doing it with the pup so it will be a lovely walk out with him.

Saturday 27th April 2019

I’m sure you’ve heard but it seems like a little storm was coming out way and well it turns out we’re all quite mad. As next weekend is the Liverpool Spring 5K/10K and we’d just mad out outfits we thought today would be a great day to try them out, and boy was it a day. We had a Park Run full of wind, rain and flash flooding!! I’ve never seen so much water during a Park Run since I started doing them, we ran with Jess so managed to get it done in around 45 minutes, which for Jess is really good!

Total ran today 3.15 Miles

Sunday 28th April 2019

Second to last long run with Jessica today before Run Rock’n’Roll Liverpool Half Marathon so we went for a 10 miler around Castletown way. Mainly because I had LLAG afterwards. The run was great timing for Jess and it gives her a good idea of when she would be looking at finishing. I defiantly expect her to be finishing before the 3.30 hour cut off.

Did Lift Like a Girl Barbell class straight afterwards and I learnt my lesson from the last time I did it and did low weights compared to what I can actually do just because May is so bleeding busy I just cannot have any chances of getting an injury!

So when we got home from LLAG it was straight onto catching up with the London Marathon and well of cause I had to put my name in the pot! It’s one of those dream races which prior to running I was always like “oh wouldn’t it be amazing to do” and now I’m like “I could so smash that.” We’ll see though I’ve heard stories of people taking over 7 years to get in and longer!!! It would be amazing if I could get in though as I do have grand aspirations of maybe adding a lovely six star finisher to my medal collection (cough cough) LOL!!

Total ran today 10 Miles

Total ran this week 22.8 Miles!
