Training Diary – Only the World Knows

Ok soooooo I’ve not been putting anything up because well I lost motivation somewhere and haven’t really got it back, as it is I’m suffering with what must be a chest infection.

Oh the joys of winter!

Well Disney is not far away at all and well I’m shit scared I’m not going to be able to run it ekkkk, so I’d better buck my ideas up! So I bring you the first week in my training diary, which I will be keeping (promise!) So if you remember my previous blog post where I said what I was going to aim for well I’m still aiming for that, kinda.

Tuesday

Tuesday was the first of my short runs of which I only managed 3.5 miles and well I do feel like my chest gave up. I stopped half way and sent my other half a text saying how hard the run was and that I was going back, yep that’s never happened before! Today was also the day my mum got to open the post to see if I got into the London Marathon, spoiler alert, I didn’t! Ahhhh well there will always be next year, hopefully!

Saturday

So I didn’t run again all week, my chest has been suffering and as I’m on holiday all I’ve been doing is having a lemsip and taking cough syrup. Really hoping that I can sort this cold out! Kinda typical, think I got one the same time last year as well!

Also I got married woooop, not your normal wedding but perfect for us.

Sunday

Sunday my sister travelled up from Wales to meet me so that we could run the Draycote 10K, we we’re both still very much feeling meh after Leicester being cancelled. I’m still undecided on whether I’m going to run the virtual run or not, I feel a wee bit strange about getting a medal for running it even though I’m not if you get what I mean….. Anyhow we still wanted a run and well I still wanted to wear my t-shirt otherwise it would of been a waste so we found the Draycote 10K to run. I’ll do a separate race report on it later.

This week hasn’t been perfect with regards to training I do understand that, but I’ve tried my best, I’m hoping to get out more next week and only time will tell. When I’m back home I will be doing a better plan of action and I will also be on a diet. I defiantly know they don’t need each other but I’ve managed to put on a wee bit of weight and I think it might be one of the reasons I’m running so badly. I also know that I feel better running when my diet is healthier.

Disney Training – The Plan

So this week is the week, the week we start training and I thought now would be as good time as any to explain how we are going to train for the Dopey Challenge.

In the first instance one thing to remember is that it will be getting cold here quite soon and we live in the Isle of Man so there is no way really for us to train how to run in the humidity. We’re obviously just going to wing it when we get there and hope for the best!

I found our training plan online, I think it might be the actual one Disney gives you but I’ve changed it slightly, instead of doing the run, walk, run we are just going to run and if that is to much we’ll just learn to run, walk, run. We’ve never ran a full marathon before, so however excited I am, I’m also a wee bit scared about it all! I’ve also changed the 45 minutes run to 4 Miles, as that’s basically the same for me, not so much my sister, she’s fast but it will work for me.

So we have 20 weeks till we go to Disney, is now a good time to panic???!!

Jesus I didn’t realise it was so close till I counted it lol.

Week 1 19th – 25th August

There is the potential that because Sunday is the day of the End2End that I am supporting the other half so won’t be able to do both LLAG or the run but we will see!

Week 7 30th – 6th October
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run

Ok this is where the training get’s interesting!! I’m of to Leicester on the 4th/5th (not booked the boat yet so unsure on which day lol), and well if it’s the 4th I can get a Park Run in and if it’s the 5th I wont be able to. Then again it doesn’t really matter which option I take because on the 6th I’ve got the Leicester Half Marathon and I want to do my best ever in this event. As long as we keep going back to the other half’s parents in Leicester in October I will be doing this event and with it being my first ever half I think it’s a really good way to see my progression.

Failing any of the above, my diary say’s were supposed to do 15 Miles so once we’ve ran the Half Marathon we’ll (my sister is coming over to just do the event with me) do the other 2.5 miles. Glutton for punishment, I’m certain of it lol.

Week 8 7th – 13th October

Saturday – Park Run
Sunday – 3 Miles

Week 9 14th – 20th October
Tue/Thur – 4 Mile Run

So we’re still on holiday for this long run and when I talked to the other half on what I could do, I came up with the idea of running around Rutland water, which is around exactly 17 miles. Woop Woop. He’s going to go and cycle and I’m going to run. I’m really looking forward to it.

Block 2 – Second Block, super ekkkkk

Then on the 6th we’re flying out ekkkkk, so that’s it for now. I’m going to try my hardest to keep to this and if I want to do a couple of more runs in or miles then I will do!

I’ll also be doing cross training during this, which will mostly be cycling and weight lifting.

Training Diary // WC 6th May 2019

Wednesday 8th May 2019

So on Tuesday I added a few new tattoo’s to my Pokemon sleeve, I love how it’s moving forward, it’s going to be very exciting to see it when the colour goes on. I thought I’d give the skin a day to recover so there was no running sadly. Moving onto Wednesday we did some more strength training in the gym with added foam rolling.

Thursday 9th May 2019

Thursday was um interesting, the whole morning it lashed it down and then it came to our lunchtime run where it was soooooo humid. I don’t know whether you can see this from my glasses. Still managed to get a great time in though which makes me very happy.

Friday 10th May 2019

Friday was another day strength training in the gym! I’m really trying with getting more gym style selfies, how people manage to get great ones and a full session in I have no idea lol!

Saturday 11th May 2019

YAY!! Park Run Saturday, Oh I do love Park Run and this week was extra special because of that view! We’re at Conrhenny for the next 5 weeks because of T.T. and practice week, hoping to get out watching the bikes, hopefully anyhow unbelievably managed a PB somehow!! Even with the killer of a hill.

I cannot believe I only have a couple of weeks till I’m doing the Liverpool Run Rock’n’Roll! Hoping to get out and do more running next week just to keep the mileage ticking over.

Also just noticed, yes I am wearing my Liverpool Spring 10K t-shirt in every photo and yes it did get washed every day lol!

Training Diary // WC 29th April 2019

Monday 29th April 2019

As always Monday was my rest day, I really do try and do nothing at all apart from walking though town at lunchtime!

Tuesday 30th April 2019

Tuesday was a strength training day with the sister in the gym. I love the fact that we are both in our London pants and also how different they look! I’m wearing capri’s I swear!!

Wednesday 1st May 2019

Wednesday was a quick (seriously quick as it was just us two) run up and down Douglas prom during lunch. 2.56 Miles of which both were in the 10 min miles!! Still amazed at how fast I am running lately.

Thursday 2nd May 2019

Thursday was another day in the gym strength training, my aim over the coming weeks is to try and get more photo’s of me doing the training sessions we are going through. This TRX is well scary. You just clip it into a portal on the roof and your good to go! I always panic it’s not going to take my weight so I never really know if I’m doing the weights properly or not!!

I also spent the night doing a quick pack for our weekend trip away to Liverpool for the Liverpool Spring 5K & 10K (race report to come on both soon!) I normally pack rather minimally and I found it really hard this time what with the racing costumes and the extra shoes!!

Friday 3rd Mary 2019

So Friday was on the boat day in the afternoon after half a day at work and then the best recce run ever! The night before I had done a quick google map play for a run around Sefton Park as we knew we wanted to get a little run in, well it wasn’t long before I started noticing that the park was perfect to make a suggestive picture! Turns out it was a lot harder to do that I thought, we got lost once, hence the little kick up at the top and then while we were looking at the map figuring out which way to go our other sister continued on down the path, hence the line inside! Overall though it was a good run a bit a lot longer than we wanted!! I was only hoping for a 5K!

Saturday 4th May 2019

Saturday was the Liverpool Spring 5K and I don’t want to say much as I will be doing a Race Report!

Sunday 5th May 2019

Sunday was the Liverpool Spring 10K and as with the 5K I don’t want to say much as I will be doing a Race Report.

We came back home on the Sunday afternoon boat so didn’t have much downtime sadly. This week was more about ticking my fitness over and having a really good time while we were away. I’ve got a “break” week prior to the Harbour to Harbour walk and then it will be the Liverpool Run Rock’n’Roll so not much downtime this month!

Liverpool Spring 10K – Race Report

So after the amazing PB that I got on the Liverpool Springs 5K, I knew I wanted to do my best during this 10K, especially as it was my second and there was potential that I could beat my time.

My flatlay was done the night before to make sure I had everything I needed. We normally try and wear the supermanx for all the half’s we do as it’s a consistent outfit, plus it saves up having to come up with something every time, anyhow we decided that we’d wear it for the 10K this time.

We got up early, ordered the taxi and then watched the rain, OMG it was lashing it down. We couldn’t belive it.

We packed our bags and was still waiting for the taxi………………yeahhhhhhhh the taxi, the less we say the better. We ordered a taxi two hours before the event so that we would get their early. Turns out that wasn’t early enough.

We got into our taxi half an hour before the start of which we got to the start with our luggage 5 minutes before it was going to start.

We we going crazy!!!

That photo above is off the queue for bag packing on just one of the trucks, they had three of these.

All I could think about was how time was catching up with us. I decided to check on the other two trucks and noticed one was going quicker so we legged it to that one and dropped our luggage off. While we we’re there one of the guys radio’ed back and said they couldn’t start as there was too many people at bag check.

At that time the “official” start time had come and gone!

After dropping off our luggage we raced to the start line and manoeuvred our way up to my “estimated” time.

How cool is the pacer!!!!? She was amazing and had a little music box with her to keep everything going. I was really interested in how she kept pace with two watches which beeped at her if she went over a pace or below a pace.

The race itself started off great, that first mile I felt great, the second amazing by the third I felt like I could continue at that pace forever, oh how that didn’t last.

On the 4th mile I started to feel tired and was dreaming of doing a slower pace, mile 5 was slightly less speed but this is where my moaning started to get out. I seriously cannot think what came over me but I was not the person anyone would want to run with at all.

On mile 6 I was awful, I was crying constantly because the pace was to much and complaining while telling my sister to F’off because she could run at this pace no bother, which just made me even more mad.

Everything really came to a head when someone who must of been a friend with “field mouse” jeered at us….yeahhhhhhh you should never tell anyone they are doing “shit” while running a race, I subsequently told him to F’off very VERY loudly. To this day I still cannot believe anyone would say that to anyone even if you know them or not.

Well I survived the race! It is very bittersweet for me, I got my PB amazingly. My chip time was 1:09:09 which is a PB off just over 4 minutes. Hands down that is amazing but what I put my sister through and “field mouse” through wasn’t worth that at all, in no shape or form.

I apologised immensely, but that will never be enough.

Thankfully I have learned my lesson a PB isn’t worth that. As soon as I started to show real struggle and not just the going to getting tough I should of backed down. I was going to PB anyway at the rate we were running at the start so if I backed off for the last two miles I would of made it. I think having the stress at the start of the race probably didn’t help but that isn’t any suitable excuse.

Overall both the 5K and the 10K were amazing. I loved both runs and depending on how everything falls I can see myself doing them again, because how could I not, that bling was pure gold lol.

Liverpool Spring 5K – Race Report

Liverpool Springs oh how excited we were for you! We had arrived the day before to our amazing AirBnB which we WILL be staying in again hopefully for next year! Especially if we do the Liverpool Springs again!

The night before I got all my stuff together. I had managed to persuade my sisters once again that we needed to dress up, and especially so as it was the 4th of May, you can kinda guess what theme we went with……….May the 4th be with you lol. I found the t shirt on eBay and new instantly it would go with out Tikiboo pants.

We got to the event kind of early because our Airbnb was literally just around the corner, which turned out great. We got a couple of photo’s taken with the local radio station and a lovely one of us all together.

There wasn’t anything to do at the start point apart from just hover in the sun, though we did pretend to be kids and get glitter put on us.

Edit image

Obviously required selfie before we set off!

The course itself was actually really good, all set with Sefton Park which made it great, it also had a couple of hills which I wasn’t prepared for!

I felt the run itself we by very fast, I don’t know why but as soon as I was on that start line I was telling myself that I was going to PB. I tried to talk myself out of it as well this was my first “official” 5K, even though I had done countless 5K’s in training and Park Runs. Even more so because the day after I would be doing my second 10K and wanted a PB. Nothing worked and I ended up just going for it!

I’m still amazed that I PB’ed the course, I cannot even get my head around it. My goal for 2019 was to get my 5K time to below 35 minutes and I smashed that by doing a time of 32.54!!!

I loved this course and would recommend it for anyone.
